Business Traveler Pet Peeves
Have we become less courteous travelers?
Let’s face it—business travel, and traveling in general, is more challenging than ever. We have to contend with security lines and crowded flights, weather delays and reductions in service. At the same time, mobile technology means that our companies expect us to be highly productive when we are on the road. Most of us aren’t sitting in first class either!
Keeping all of this in mind, we have compiled a list of the pet peeves we hear most often from our travelers. The top irritants are the less than courteous actions of fellow travelers, but the airlines’ own actions cause some aggravation, too.
•Not being prepared to go through security, i.e., liquids are not properly packed, electronics are not ready, laced up shoes are still on their feet, etc.
•Conducting loud cell phone conversations (though admittedly, this applies to more than air travel)
•Bringing odorous or messy food to consume on board the plane
•Not being respectful of seatmates’ space by leaning over the armrest or reclining onto their lap
•Bringing too many carry-on bags or items that clearly will not fit in the overhead bin
•Assuming the rules only apply to others with regard to turning off electronics or carry-on baggage
•Not lowering the shades or keeping the light on when others are trying to settle in
•Leaving cups, tissues and trash in or around the seat
•Airlines’ change fees and luggage fees, not to mention charges for food, pillows or headphones
•Not getting loyalty credit for miles flown, hotel stays, etc.
What’s on your list of business travel pet peeves?
Join the discussion on our Facebook page and we’ll add it to our list. Sometimes just articulating a frustration relieves it and hopefully, being aware of these hot-buttons will make each of us a more considerate fellow traveler. We wish you a pleasant and productive time on your next business trip!
