Canada Entry Requirements
Entry into Canada is solely determined by Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officials in accordance with Canadian law. To facilitate smooth entry into Canada, it is recommended that you have the following documents in your possession upon arrival at the border:
• A passport or travel document that is valid for your entire stay and guarantees re-entry to your country of origin
• If applicable, a valid temporary resident visa*
• Letters of support from your parent company and a letter of invitation from the Canadian host company**
• Other documents such as warranty or service agreements, contracts, etc. if relevant to the visit
• 24-hour contact details of your business host in Canada
• Proof that you have enough money for both your stay in Canada and your return home.
If you have any additional questions, please contact your Covington Travel agent or refer to Canada’s official tourism website.
*For temporary visits to Canada of less than 180 days, a visa is not required for U.S. citizens in most cases. U.S. citizens who will be staying longer than six months, engaging in the Canadian labor force, going to school or immigrating will need a Canadian visa.Â
**This is a recommendation, not a requirement; however, the CBSA is the gatekeeper. Business travelers without a letter of invitation from their Canadian host have been turned away in the past. Covington Travel recommends carrying all suggested documents to facilitate border crossing into Canada, whether by air or land port of entry.
Please Note: Anyone with a criminal record (including misdemeanors or alcohol-related driving offenses) may not be able to enter Canada without first obtaining a special waiver well in advance of any planned travel. To determine whether you may be inadmissible and how to overcome this finding, please refer to the Canadian citizenship and immigration website.
